What is a card reader?
It is a device which can be attached to your computer. It can be an internal reader or an external one. The most external ones are attached to the computer via USB. Using such reader you can read and write to your smart cards like SD cards, MMC cards, Compact Flash, Memory sticks, XD cards, etc. These cards are used in PDA’s, mobile phones, digital camera’s, etc.
For example if you have a SD card in your digital camera and you want to copy your photos to your computer to burn them on a CD, you can put the SD card from your digital camera into the reader and the computer will see the SD card as a removable disk.
Now you can just copy and paste all your photos to your hard disk to burn them on a CD or just to watch them on your computer. Can every card reader, read every card?
There are several types of readers and not every reader can read every card. So it is important when you are going to buy a one that you know which card is supported by the that particular reader and that these are the types of cards you use in your devices like your digital camera, or mobile phone, etc.
