Hardware in XP

Hardware in XP

In your computer you can find a lot of hardware. But how can you see what is in your computer and how do you get an overview of it?

Or when you have a problem with your a device you can go to this overview to see if that device is working properly or not.

To get to the overview you do the following:

  1. Click right mouse button on 'My computer'.
  2. Click 'Properties'. The next screen is shown.

  3. Hardware in XP

  4. In this screen you see your computer. You can see which version of Windows is installed and what kind of processor is in it.
Here you click on the 'Hardware' tab. On this tab you click the 'Device manager' button.
Then the list of all components in your computer is shown.

  5. Hardware in XP

  6. In this screen you can see the devices installed in your computer. If some devices don't work properly you can go to this screen to see if there are problems with the device. For example in this screen you see a red cross at 'Dell Wireless WLAN' card.
This means that the wireless network card doesn’t work at the moment because it is disabled.
Another sign in this screen can be this sign Hardware in XP. Here it could be that there is no driver installed properly.
  7. If you click with the right mouse button on a device there will be some options shown you can do to this device. For example: Update driver, enable / disable, uninstall, scan for changes and properties.
So if you have problems with a device or a device doesn't work you should first look in the Device manager to see if there are problems with it.
