With the word hardware we mean all devices and material which is used for data processing or information production of a information system.
So this word doesn't only mean devices like computers, monitors and printers, but also storage media like hard disks and CD-ROM drives.
In a automated system the most important device is a computer of course. A computer isn't just one device but a collection of devices. Actually the word computer-system is a better word for computer.

The computer devices can be split up in 4 categories:
  1. Input devices: (monitor, keyboard and mouse)
  2. Output devices: (printer)
  3. Central Processing Unit (CPU)
  4. Storage devices:(hard disks, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM)

For a detailed description of the devices click on a device above.
