A video card is a card to show everything on the monitor. I think this is the most important part for you if you are a fanatic gamer. The quality of the view on the monitor is dependent on the type of card you use in your computer. If you want to purchase a new one you should answer questions like: for what do you need it? Are you a fanatic gamer? Are you just surfing the internet? Do you need to make technical drawings like CAD drawings? Such questions can be practical before buying a new card.

Office use
If you are a normal user who just surfs the internet, sends some email, works with Office like Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc, plays some music and maybe sometimes a little game then you don’t need a good one. You do fine with a simple and normal one which are the most cheapest cards. General gaming
If you are a general gamer who likes to play a normal game sometimes which isn’t the newest game but games with low graphical resolution then you don't need the newest or best one. So if you like to play games like playing cards, older games like Mortal Kombat, Rollercoaster Tycoon, etc. then you don't need such a good one and you can buy a middle class card. If you do a lot of designing, drawing in Photoshop, making CAD drawings or video editing you need quite a good one because for such things are graphical quite ‘heavy’. You don’t need the best card there is but you do need a good one. Die hard gaming
If you are a die hard gamer who likes to play the newest games on the market you need a very good one. There are even games where you need 2 very good cards for to let the graphics be maximum quality at the highest resolution. So if you like to play games like Unreal Tournament, C&C Tiberium Wars, Need for Speed, Medal of Honor, etc. you do need a very good video card to play such games well.
